The Epitaph of American Capitalism

The current administration is building a coffin for a beloved friend; American capitalism. You can hear the sound of the hammer, nailing the coffin together if you listen carefully. Raising taxes on the rich, another nail in the coffin. Taking over two private car companies, another nail in the coffin. Firing and replacing the CEO of a private company, another nail in the coffin. At least this administration has the courtesy to make the death blow look neat. You can see the gold paint around the coffin in the form of Universal Healthcare. What the President doesn’t understand though, is that a coffin is still a coffin, even if it is a nice coffin. Once the death blow has been delivered the epitaph on the tombstone will read:

Here lies American Capitalism
Victim of its Success
Destroyed by Entitlement

The eulogy would go something like this; “Ladies and Gentlemen, do not grieve the passing of capitalism. All the evils in this country were created by him. He allowed the rich to stay rich, while keeping the poor down. No, do not grieve, for now all citizens will be treated equally. Fairness will prevail. And there will no longer be rich or poor.”

Of course most of us will know better. All citizens will be equal, but some will be more equal than others. Fairness will prevail, if you have the right connections. And, there will be no rich or poor in society. Those not in power will be poor, while those who are in power will be rich.
Is this change we can believe in?
