According to a new Rasmussen survey, Republicans have a 9 point lead over democrats on a generic poll. However, when you add the tea party, the numbers start to change
"In a three-way congressional contest with a Tea Party candidate on the ballot, however, the Democrat earns 36% support. The GOP candidate comes in second with 25% of the vote, and the Tea Party candidate picks up 17%. Twenty-three percent (23%) are undecided. "
This point can not be stressed enough to Chairman Steele as he meets with tea party leaders today, the Repulicans need the support of the tea party movement.

Tea with Michael Steele
Tomorrow RNC chairman Michael Steele is meeting with Tea Party leaders from dozens of different tea party organizations.
"I'm not looking to co-op the tea party movement," Steele said during the RNC's mid-winter meeting in Hawaii in January.
"I'm not looking to brand it. I'm looking to work with activist citizens who are mad, who are frustrated and angry about the direction they see the country going, who have at times had a beef with this party and have led or failed to lead in the past, and how we now are working together to correct those missteps."
So what will Steele discuss with the leaders of the tea party movement? Here's what I think should be discussed:
- Lowering taxes
- Paying off the federal debt
- Strengthening America's currency
- An agreement whereby the RNC and the tea party movement can support the same candidate
