Lessons To Learn from Rubio

Many consider Marco Rubio to be a poster boy for the tea party movement. And rightly so, the rise of Rubio has been phenomenal to say the least. What lessons can be learned from Rubio, and in contrast what lessons can be learned from Crist?

Rubio:
  • Started out in local politics, by 2007 he become the speaker of the house in Florida's congress
  • Proclaimed limited government tenets from the beginning. Rubio built his career on anti property taxes in Florida.
  • While Crist was busy hugging and praising Obama, Rubio sensed the anger against Obama's policies among the population and gave those people a voice.
  • When the tea party movement broke, he was made sure to get in front of it.
  • He built a loyal base by holding town hall meetings, and other open forums
Crist:
  • He was more loyal to the polls than his principles.
  • Sold out his party out of a fear for political survival.
  • Refused to return money given to him by Republican donors, this was a huge mistake.
  • Alienated whatever base he had.
Charlie Crist, you have been a decent governor for Florida, but you ignored your constituents. You thought you could outsmart the voters, switching parties and betraying your base just because you are losing in polls, is not going to help your cause. You need to find your principals and stick with them.
