Dangerous to Humanity?

I can't understand why anyone would think the tea party to be dangerous to humanity. I mean you would think that this anti-tea party passion should be aimed at a group that really is dangerous to you humanity like, you know...terrorist or for that matter the new black panther party. In a post on alternet, Booman said this about the tea party:

So, I don’t dismiss these people at all. I think they rank with climate change and nuclear proliferation as threats to humanity.

Huh? I could understand climate change since that is no threat, but dangerous as nuclear proliferation? Does the tea party really have the capacity to reek destruction upon the face of the earth?
